Top Design Resolutions for 2013

Design stars from TV and the Web share their plans for the New Year.

Looking ahead to 2013, what New Year's resolutions are your favorite designers making? Thirteen design stars from TV and the blogosphere weigh in—some of them may surprise you!

Top Design Resolutions for 2013 - Antonio Ballatore

Antonio Ballatore (The Antonio Treatment): 1. Get new pots, pans and kitchen knives. Or is that my Christmas list? 2. Get healthy, exercise, eliminate a lot of stress. 3. Adopt a little buddy for Chewie. 4. Trade in the Jag for a pickup truck. 5. Settle down and start a family. 6. Go big or go home!

Top Design Resolutions for 2013 - Emily Henderson

Emily Henderson (Secrets of a Stylist): Let's see, in 2013 I'm going to remember people's birthdays enough in advance to send them something (even if it's a card) that they might actually want to own. No more last minute gifts where I pull from my vintage inventory and they are all, "Uh, thanks for the brass elephant." I'm a shopaholic and I shop 25-30 hours a week for work, but I can't seem to get it together to send my mom a gift that is actually appropriate for her. So I'm going to try really hard to be a better gift giver, and a better daughter and sibling in general. Woah, that got heavy...

Top Design Resolutions for 2013 - Mary McDonald

Mary McDonald (Million Dollar Decorators): No more in-depth fix-it projects—be it people, objects or real estate. Been there, done that!

Top Design Resolutions for 2013 - Kim Myles

Kim Myles (Myles of Style): My resolution is to be completely open to possibilities—both in life and in design. My mantra will be, "Yes, why not?!"

Top Design Resolutions for 2013 - Taniya Nayak

Taniya Nayak (Restaurant Impossible): Taking more time to focus on family. The last few years have been insane because I've been traveling so much for Restaurant Impossible. I really want to reconnect with my friends and family and be a little more present than I have been.

Top Design Resolutions for 2013 - Jeffrey Alan Marks

Jeffrey Alan Marks (Million Dollar Decorators): My resolution for 2013 is to cook more at home. I am lucky enough to live at the beach and it's important to me to see the ingredients used in the preparation of food and to use the very freshest and nutritious things I can find in my daily travels. I shop fresh farmer's markets more often than ever now. I love Donna Hay books!

Top Design Resolutions for 2013 - Jeanine Hays

Jeanine Hays (AphroChic): To spend more time with the things that inspire me. I spend much of my time designing in the studio and writing the blog. This year, I want to explore the art and design scene in Philadelphia, and be inspired.

Top Design Resolutions for 2013 - Jennifer Bertrand

Jennifer Bertrand (Design Star Season 3 Winner): For 2013, I resolve NOT be the "cobbler with no shoes." As a designer, it's easy to expend your heart and soul giving life to others' environments, leaving little for your own space. Very silly and ironic, I know! So here's to not letting my own home look poopy! I also have the resolutions of learning to turn off my phone occasionally, get in shape and be healthy...yada, yada, yada. Happy New Year to all of you out there!

Top Design Resolutions for 2013 - Chris & Peyton Lambton

Chris & Peyton Lambton (Going Yard): We recently bought a new dining table from Pottery Barn and purposely got the extended size so we can have more dinner parties in the New Year. The winter gets long on Cape Cod, and we want to make more time for our friends. What better way than entertaining and dinners together with everyone seated at the same table?!?

Top Design Resolutions for 2013 - Jason Champion

Jason Champion (Design Star, Season 4): My goal for 2013 is to use more yellow!

Note: Pantone has declared Lemon Zest one of the on-trend colors for 2013.

Top Design Resolutions for 2013 - Sandra Espinet

Sandra Espinet (HGTV's Celebrity Holiday Homes): I am a very lucky and very blessed designer. I thank the stars for all of the great work currently in my office. My 2013 New Year's resolution is to complete the layout for my upcoming book, The Well Traveled Home. I have so many travel photos from all over the world and so many design photos of my jobs that organizing it all in between client calls and designer meetings is a task. But I promise, I'll get it done!

Top Design Resolutions for 2013 - Linda Merrill

Linda Merrill (Surroundings and The Skirted Roundtable blogs): I’d like to develop more personal discipline throughout all aspects of my life. Better diet, fitness, more sleep, less procrastination—generally taking better care of myself.

Top Design Resolutions for 2013 - Robin Callan

Robin Callan (Fu For Thought blog): I resolve to bring back the word "flibbertigibbet." And to be one, when the occasion warrants it.

Happy New Year! What's your design resolution for 2013?
