Interview with Miles Redd

Miles Redd recently shared his thoughts on How To Decorate with Art on Williams-Sonoma Home's Designer Series. Below, the New York-based designer answers some questions exclusively for Designer Marketplace.

What advice would you give to young designers just starting out?

I would say, answer the telephone. Most people let everything go to voicemail. Answer every phone call because the early bird catches the worm. Everyone is so addicted to email these days, and it’s so nice to actually have a live conversation. Also, use your home as your best laboratory. Don’t be afraid to try all the things that are dancing through your own mind and experiment.

What do you believe has had the greatest impact in helping you build your business?

Having worked for wonderful people in the industry, having them teach me so much about he world of design, how to set up a  design business and how to run it an appropriate fashion.
