Sesame Letterpress is the little printing shop around the corner, literally.  This boutique letterpress studio is just a stone's throw away from our west elm design headquarters in Brooklyn, New York. Operated by husband and wife printing team, Breck Hostetter and Matt Heindl, Sesame Letterpress custom prints things like wedding invitations, coasters and limited edition artist publications using the original letterpress method. Letterpress printing dates back to the 15th century, and is done by inking a plate with a raised surface of type or images and pressing this inked surface into a sheet of paper. The effect is textured and finely detailed.

When we dropped by the Sesame Letterpress studio to invite Breck and Matt to collaborate on a special project, they began sketching on the spot. Their unique illustrations were printed using the studio's Victorian era cast iron press. We took these finished prints and translated them into a collection of wild and whimsical settings for the holiday table.  These include small and large Harvest Entertaining Platters embellished with calligraphy and illustrations of a Turkey. The natural world also comes alive in Sesame Letterpress' handcrafted paper coasters (featuring an owl, penguin and polar bear) and a set of four dessert plates emblazoned with woodland mushrooms.
