west elm: Art of Mike Miller

Mike Miller has modernized the classic silhouette, giving it new depth and a dash of wit.  We partnered with Mike on a collection of art and accessories including framed prints (reproduced from Mike's originals) and a series of whimsical pillow covers.

Mike's shadow portraits of family and friends, pets and kids, are true vignettes of modern life – with a unique graphic twist.  He uses photo collage, cutting out vintage photographs of individuals and groups, and reverses the images to create his signature silhouettes in white, black and neutral tones. These cut-out figures create a bold tableau in four framed wall art pieces  -  a large-scale composition called “Group" and three smaller pieces entitled, “Three Men,” “Friends” and “Girl.” Each high quality print is encased in a simple black frame with a tonal background.

The Mike Miller for west elm pillows feature classic black, Victorian-esque iconography including a profile, dog-and-cat figures, and action silhouettes. Each image is screen-printed by hand on pure silk.  Scatter these pillows casually on the sofa or bed for a shot of graphic style.
