Traditional Chinese courtyards and interiors have been filled with drum-shaped garden stools for centuries. This season, we’ve created eight styles of drum garden seating that are updated for modern life – and still look just as good inside as out.  Like their ancient predecessors, our seats are made out of heavy porcelain to withstand sun and rain, and also function as small side tables. Our ceramic artists have decorated them with everything from classical elements like painted dragons and faux nailheads to contemporary designs of simulated cane strips and real woven seagrass.

On the classic side, our Linked Circles Garden seat has a fretwork of lucky-coin emblems interlaced at the center to represent good fortune. The white glaze looks clean and classic, while the antique green has the deep, multi-layered coloring of old jade. The Clover Seat has four-leafed-clover piercings and protective foo-dog emblems. Our Porcelain Dragon seat is finished by hand in a pattern of blue stylized dragons, coins and Chinese imagery.

Our modern designs include the Cane Seat with a cylinder design criss-crossed with faux cane. Our Eyelet Seats in both blue and white are simply adorned with a cutout pattern resembling eyelet-style textiles. Our Warwick Garden Seat is a fresh interpretation on the classic, with thick ropes of seagrass woven around a beehive-shaped basket to lend rich texture and natural color.

Chinese garden seats are a trend that has never gone out of style over the last thousand years. We believe that it’s due to their indoor/outdoor versatility and their casually beautiful surface designs. Use them everywhere to add textural richness in every space.
